Testosterone is the main sex hormone in men. It is well known for being responsible for the development of muscle mass and strength, sexual function and libido, bone density, energy and mood. As men age, there is a reduction in testosterone production leading to low circulating and bioavailable testosterone in the blood. Not surprisingly, when testosterone is replaced, the positive effects are regained.
Testosterone replacement can be used in men with low levels of testosterone and those with symptoms of deficiency. Therapy is directed by patient's subjective symptoms.
